Never Never.jpg

James Hook is a child who only wants to grow up.

When he meets Peter Pan, a boy who loves to pretend and is intent on never becoming a man, James decides he could try being a child—at least briefly. James joins Peter Pan on a holiday to Neverland, a place of adventure created by children’s dreams, but Neverland is not for the faint of heart. Soon James finds himself longing for home, determined that he is destined to be a man. But Peter refuses to take him back, leaving James trapped in a world just beyond the one he loves. A world where children are to never grow up.

But grow up he does.

And thus begins the epic adventure of a Lost Boy and a Pirate.

This story isn’t about Peter Pan; it’s about the boy whose life he stole. It’s about a man in a world that hates men. It’s about the feared Captain James Hook and his passionate quest to kill the Pan, an impossible feat in a magical land where everyone loves Peter Pan.

Except one.

I am a total lover of fairy tale re-tellings and I especially love anything to do with Peter Pan (or Alice). So when I strolled into the library today I immediately picked this up. I’ve only just started but I’m definitely Hook-ed (hahaha I make corny jokes). So here’s my few lines from page 56:

It seemed that they didn’t keep time here. Maybe it didn’t exist at all; James didn’t know. Either way. there had been some sort of night and today felt longer than yesterday, but it was marching forward as regular days tended to do.

There you have it I can’t wait to see where this story goes. Please share you’re Friday 56 with me.

XOXO

    1. Hi Julie! I am not sure if Tink is in this book but I feel like she has to be it just wouldn’t be the same without her. I am actually going to be reading it as a part of a reading challenge on GoodReads which starts in Feb. I will be sure to let you know if she makes an appearance in this book. I am on my way to check out your site now 🙂

    1. Hi Lisa! I do watch Once it is one of my favorite shows. I really enjoyed the Peter Pan storyline it was cool to see a very different twist on that character. I’m pretty sure this is going to follow a similar idea so I am excited to check out how Rian a fleshes out Peter and Hook. I am on my way now to check out your site 🙂

  1. Sounds interesting! I’ve always had mixed feelings about Peter Pan, because my mother’s name is Wendy, so I usually watched the movies thinking Wendy was getting a bad deal while the boys got to have all the fun! But I loved the 2003 live action movie, and it finally got me interested in reading the book… only I still haven’t gotten around to it yet!

    1. My aunt is a huge Peter fan I actually didn’t really get interested in the story til I read it for a college psychology class. Plus I’m a big fan of Once Upon a Time and they put a cool spin on the Pan story.

      1. We loved Once Upon a Time but lost track of it around the time Hook was making his ascension- I think we’re going to get caught up again soon, though, because I don’t think I’d mind my daughter seeing most of the stuff that happens on screen. (She’s too young to find it too interesting for too long, unless there are dragons or people falling down)

      1. Like she gets to do anything interesting? I was starting to wonder, lately, too, why more people haven’t started writing more from Tiger Lily’s perspective – but maybe all that is out there, and I am just bad at finding it?
